Rare badge of the Order of the Medjidie, an imperial honorary order of the Ottoman Empire established in 1851 by Sultan Abdülmecid I. A magnificent piece of antique jewelry measuring 5 x 3.5 cm.
Openwork oval frame in blackened silver, entirely set with white stones (period paste) imitating faceted diamonds. Central medallion in solid gold or silver-gilt, finely engraved with the Tughra (the Sultan's official monogram) against a starry background. A double row of sparkling stones of various sizes frames the heart of the medal. Elegant knot surmounted by a stylized laurel wreath.
Typical 19th-century reverse with a closure plate and screw-rivet assembly system, testifying to meticulous craftsmanship. Sturdy gilded metal suspension loop with a red hanging cord.
Superb overall condition. All stones present, no major losses visible. Magnificent period patina on the metal. A sound, complete, and highly authentic piece.
