Authentic insignia of a Knight of the Order of Nichan Iftikhar, a Tunisian imperial order founded in the 19th century by Ahmed I Bey. A magnificent piece in solid silver and enamel, measuring 6 x 9 cm, in very good condition.
The insignia consists of a 10-pointed star with radiating deep green enamel rays, alternating with faceted silver points mimicking diamonds. The obverse features a cherry-red enameled central medallion bearing the Arabic calligraphy (Tughra) of the Bey of Tunis, surrounded by a silver crescent moon. The articulated suspension loop takes the symbolic form of an Ottoman crescent enclosing a five-pointed star.
The reverse reveals a superb central disc in solid silver, finely carved in relief, representing the military attributes of the Regency: two crossed flags, two drums, and a signature engraved in Arabic. The green and red enamels are beautifully preserved on both sides, with no major chips. A lovely antique patina on the silver highlights the relief of the engraving. A high-quality piece testifying to the prestige of this order, which was awarded until 1957.
