Sumptuous solid silver and silver-gilt Louis XVI period mass chalice (1780-1800), in a perfect state of preservation. Crafted from heavy-gauge silver sheet and covered in its original gilding across the entire surface.
This impressive chalice stands 28 centimeters tall. It disassembles into six parts, allowing for easy and thorough cleaning.
The base is adorned with three repoussé scenes: Christ on the Cross in the center, flanked by the Blessed Virgin and Saint John, while Saint Nicholas and Saint Anthony of Padua appear in the other two medallions. The repoussé silver false cup bears portraits of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
The entire chalice is richly decorated with refined neoclassical motifs. Although unmarked, this chalice shares identical characteristics with several examples attributed to the Antwerp silversmith Verberckt from the same period.
An exceptional piece for collectors of liturgical objects and antique silverware.
