Superb antique bronze sculpture depicting a lion overpowering a wild boar, a work attributed to and signed by Fratin, a great master of 19th-century animalier sculpture.

Christophe Fratin (1801–1864) is one of the most sought-after French animalier sculptors, a contemporary of Barye. His works are known for their expressive power, dramatic movement, and the realism of his hunting scenes.

This sculpture illustrates a spectacular scene: a powerful lion, muscles tensed, dragging its prey, a dying wild boar. The composition is dynamic, typical of Fratin's work, with a great wealth of detail in the mane, the tension of the paws, and the texture of the ground.

The bronze has a beautiful, dark antique patina, with brown and golden hues that accentuate the volumes.

The sculpture rests on an integrated naturalistic base, also made of bronze.

Signature visible in the material.
